Braking resistors

Braking Resistors for Inverters and Servo Drives

Braking resistors (up to 8 kW, IP20) for servo drives. They dissipate energy and prevent the drive from stalling.

braking resistors are vital components for ensuring the reliability and safety of your motion control systems. When an electric motor (for example, on machine tools or axes with high masses) undergoes rapid deceleration, it acts as a generator: kinetic energy is fed back to the drive in the form of electrical energy, triggering dangerous voltage spikes on the DC bus.

In all those demanding applications where the resistor integrated within the converter is undersized to dissipate the excess energy (and where it is not possible to use a grid-recovery power supply such as our PSR3), Alter Elettronica’s external braking resistors intervene to dissipate this energy as heat.

Designed as low-inductance components, our resistors guarantee consistent performance and are ideal for repetitive use within high-speed machine cycles.
