6AXD: 4-quadrant six-thyristor DC servo drive with circulating current. Optimised for axis control, with no deadband at zero speed.
The 6AXD digital servo drive is the flagship of the D SERIES for high-precision applications. Designed for DC motors, it is specifically suited to axis control in machine tools and in all industrial applications where deadband-free operation at zero speed is mandatory. It operates in all 4 quadrants (bidirectional) using a 6-thyristor armature bridge in circulating-current configuration.
The 6AXD was designed to replace both its predecessor, the 6AXC, and obsolete circulating-current thyristor drives such as the Servomac MAS. To operate in this mode, two inductors (or one dual-winding inductor) per servo converter are required, and the power supply must come from one of the following:
- a three-phase transformer with star-connected secondary and accessible neutral point
- a three-phase autotransformer with artificial neutral point
- a three-phase 400 V mains supply with artificial neutral point.
The maximum input voltage is 230 V or 280 V phase-to-neutral, depending on the converter version, while the maximum rated output current ranges from 30 A to 90 A depending on the size, with a +33% overload capability for limited periods.
As with the rest of the series, both the armature bridge and the field bridge are housed inside the drive. The digital control circuits are fully isolated, and ease of use is maximised by a user-friendly front interface with LCD display, USB port and I/O terminals (optoisolated and differential), designed to speed up wiring and diagnostics.
Versions
The 6AXD model is part of the D SERIES ecosystem, designed to ensure uninterrupted production (zero downtime) thanks to a removable memory card (instant parameter backup and restore). If your application does not require the specific axis zeroing function, you may wish to consider the other drives in the range:
- Model 12IRD: 4-quadrant bidirectional drive with a high-performance 12-thyristor bridge.
- Model 6ID: Unidirectional 2-quadrant controller with a 6-thyristor bridge.
