Alter transducer converters for retrofit: adapts encoders, resolvers and tachometers to modern servo drives.
Transducer converters designed by Alter Elettronica are the essential link for those undertaking the refurbishment of industrial plants and machine tools. Very often the installed motor is in perfect working order, but uses an obsolete speed or position transducer — analogue or based on closed proprietary protocols — making communication with modern standard drives impossible.
Instead of incurring the costs and long machine downtime of replacing the entire motor or the encoder, or rewiring the axis, our conversion boards translate the original signal in real time into a universal TTL incremental encoder signal (5 V line driver): a plug & play approach that enables the reuse of existing hardware, cutting modernisation costs and extending the lifecycle of your automation system.
The available models are listed below; since support for a new transducer only requires a firmware modification, additional models can be added on request, as already done for the 13/013 module.
Nor is the module limited to conversion: thanks to its analogue and digital I/O and a powerful microcontroller, it can also perform fast signal readings, motor speed checks and mathematical operations.
These modules are also used by motor service workshops to test transducers and run motors on the test bench without purchasing brand-specific servo converters for each manufacturer.

Common technical specifications
- Main function: real-time signal conversion, fast enough for closed-loop motor control with a servo converter.
- Standardised output signal: 5 V TTL incremental encoder (line driver).
- Digital inputs: optoisolated, 24 VDC positive logic; commands can be generated by buttons, relay contacts, PLC outputs, etc., from one or more points.
- Digital outputs: optoisolated, 24 VDC positive logic, electronically protected against overload and short circuit.
- Diagnostics: front-panel LEDs show the status of inputs and outputs, the presence of alarms and correct operation (flashing "ON" LED).
- Alarm management: alarms are stored in the module, can be viewed from the PC and reset via a dedicated digital input; the alarm condition is signalled on a dedicated digital output.
- Configuration: all settings are made via the USB port using the ALTER Windows software and stored in the module; parameters can be transferred to the PC for archiving and later copied back to the module.
- Installation: compact design for easy panel mounting.
