Under high current conditions in particularly demanding industrial duty cycles – characterised by sudden accelerations, decelerations or high inertial loads – the capacitors fitted inside the servo drives can overheat and become saturated rapidly. If this temperature rise persists over time, it inevitably causes the drive to shut down (alarm), resulting in sudden machine stoppages.
The capacitor modules developed by Alter Elettronica definitively resolve this critical issue. Designed to be connected directly to the intermediate circuit (DC-BUS) of IGBT-bridged converters (both Alter-branded and from other manufacturers), they act as a ‘capacitive buffer’ or a genuine additional energy reserve that the drive can draw upon during periods of maximum load.
By externalising heat dissipation and increasing the system’s total capacity, these modules relieve the load on the inverter’s internal electronics, protecting the system from voltage spikes, preventing annoying errors and significantly extending the service life of your servo drives. Furthermore, these modules improve the drive’s energy management by storing energy during deceleration and using it to power the motor without dissipating it as heat through the braking resistor.
